Hi all, welcome to Build 59!
* Added Leaderboards (button is next to augment menu button) * Items now attempt to liquidate automatically when they expire from the pocket. * Fixed Cutlass shield regen delay to be uniformly 5 seconds.
There's only a couple of changes this week due to some company vacations. Leaderboards have been added as a fun and interesting way to see how you're doing compared to everyone else. We've added some leaderboards that we thought would be fun, but if you have ideas for new leaderboards, let us know!
There should be another build next week, likely with more changes than this week.
Please report any bugs and other issues in this thread. Thanks again for your help and time in testing Grid12.

Towns discovered. That is all. I'm not biased about this at all.
Edit: looks like you added an extra wall to the security tower too.

Woot. If possible I think play time or longest char living would be interesting, or most pulches collected.
Leaderboards are fun I guess just to look at I don't understand the reasoning for the extra wall to security tower though does not seem to make a huge difference.
I would love to be able to play zoomed in on my browser and still click tele to places as things don't line up other than that I have not found any glaring issues or bugs.

Imho the leaderboards should only show stuff that promotes co-op and healthy competition and isn't related to trading in any way, especially in relation to promised only way to obtain coins with real money in the future. Also lot of boards should be just for single games, like towers cleared in recent game. Healthy competition can be related to not dying, like tower killed without death or town discovered without death.
Also this is more like selfish proposition, but I would really appreciate to be able to opt out, especially if the current form stays. When I play co-mob game I don't want to compete.

Looking at leaderboards, doesn't find own name on it Anyways, in all seriousness, I really like that items auto liquidate when they expire, its kind of annoying when you forget about your inventory for a day and lose all the short term stuff

The extra security wall makes the security more of a pain with convoys/scouting, but since that was the fortress's intended purpose, and the main reason as to why it exists, I approve of the change. Having a coin leaderboard does promote hoarding coins for leaderboard fame (which isn't their purpose), though I do like the idea of having an 'all coins ever collected' leaderboard if possible, at least until they are bought and not found, when you should take that out. As for other leaderboards: Tanks unlocked (Again, this might not work long term, when hundreds of people will have every tank, but until then it's a fun demographic) Play time (Why not?) Most heavily used tanks (Not a leaderboard per se, but still good fun) Total convoy kills (Was surprised this didn't exist, tbh ) Total zeta kills (This will be an interesting one ) Most convoys killed on one tank (a.k.a without dying) Most minions killed (This will just be interesting to compare 'Most fortresses killed' with ^^) I don't think 'longest char alive' is a good idea because that will instantly go to people who have quit (and possibly a few alts ^^) Also, if we're gonna have a lot of leaderboards, it would be nice to have a list-type thing to help sort through them. Finally, a quick question for the dev team: It seems as if multi-fortresses, the re-intruduction of the old tanks (though pegasus is coming back, and this has been gone for a while), and the tank/fortress editors have disappeared from the roadmap. Since I, and I think a few others, were excited to see the implementations of these things, when, if at all, will these things be created?

Idea for additional leaderboards #I love the leaderboards btw +convoy kills or +zeta kills
I'll think of other interesting leaderboards that would represent skill etc etc

Suggestions for leaderboard system:
I've heard this discussed in-game, but I'm not sure if it has been mentioned on the forums. It would be nice to have a per grid leaderboard, one that refreshes with the map. It could have things like most towns discovered, most kills, kill/death ratio, etc. This would make it so active players, regardless of being in the top of the top, could participate on the boards. It seems more fun that way.
As for the current board, the one that I currently find weird is the coins board. It feels strange. I mean, if I were to be trading with someone, knowing they have 20x the amount of coins I have, I may feel like they should be giving me the better end of the deal. That is just a sort of exaggerated example, but I feel that if trading / economy is based of coins, that shouldn't be on the boards. Just my opinion there.

@shatov well, since all buying and selling is done in complete anonymity (with only a tiny number of excpetions, and that number will grow smaller and smaller as more and more people come online), it's nigh on impossible to sell if the spectre unlock you just clicked on is from a complete newbie who got lucky from a convoy, or completely pimped guys like zub and Levesque . Though I am against 'current' coin leaderboards, for reasons I mentioned in my post. @zub 80% of me agrees with you. See, I do have a bit of paranoia with competitive leaderboards and what they can do to a game and its community (one of my favourite multiplayer games accidentally ripped itself to shreds when it implemented a hyper-competitive leaderboard which turned the community against each other and thus scared away 90% of its playerbase), so I don't want to put too much competition into grid (because people get very competitive). But I think that slightly competitive factors couldn't hurt that much. As long as you keep it competitive enough so that people strive to get there, and not competitive to the point where people start attacking/bullying other, less experienced players so that they can get higher up in the board and so that they don't 'risk' losing their position and whatnot. As for leaderboards rewarding co-operative behaviours, I would love this, and totally agree.

Well, I agree that for example coins shouldn't be on the list. These lists are good to see who is active and playing (Zub, man, do you even have a life? ), and who are just merching (like that abrams7xx guy who i never saw playing the game. Whose bank account alt char is it?), and who are doing the boring stuff (leading tower kills by 10k? I am truly ashamed.) What I would like to see has been already echoed by the others, repeating what I feel the most interesting. Personal Achievements- Towns found
- Towns connected
- Towns leveled
- Buildings built
- Convoys killed
- Zetas killed
- Biggest temporary storage at a time
- Numbers of deaths
Per Grid / Global Achievements(This should be summarized for each instance of a Grid, they could be numbered and referred to by their spawn and end time, e.g.: "Grid 0024 ( July 1st - July 5th )") - Sectors Explored and Sectors Cleared (can be in a / ratio)
- Towns explored and connected
- Total town levels, highest town level
- Total towers destroyed
- Total amount of player death
- Most people online at a time
- Longest period noone died, assuming at least 4 people are online
- Highest value drop obtained (only augs/storage/tank unlocks count)
- Tank usage statistics (This is a must! It would also help in balancing the tanks and to see how the trends shift)

An alternative UI to leaderboards that might satisfy some and annoy others: - Show a histogram of the distribution of numbers: how many players have 0 coins, how many have 1-10, how many have 11-20, etc.
- Show your own numbers and where you are in the histogram.
- Don't show other people's names (or maybe only the top)
SpaceChem does something like this. It's motivating — you can see that others have done better than you — without shaming — nobody else can see that you're not the best. I'm not sure it's the right thing for this game but I thought I'd throw it out there (I'd love to know how many RotMG players have even reached 20 or 6/8 etc., and that's the kind of thing the histogram would tell me)

amitp, why not both? If everything on this build + what you just said was implemented, that would give gird one of the most badass leaderboards I've ever seen. And that would be pretty cool imo ^^

There is a bug where the Paladin can make someones health go outside of the bar.
I also suggest that the Pallies heal gun be made more effective at what it does, right now a Corsairs ability can easily become more useful especially in convoy situations.
