But yeah, sometimes it says 'discovered minerals, +250' +250 what? And what good does finding minerals do for me?

+250 is +250 XP. XP levels your tank up, which allows you to use modules on it to upgrade its stats.

Once you connect a mineral (like you connect a town), the mineral will go away, and you'll get a storage unit (level 6 or above, I believe).
