A bunch of people have just found out about the game and are flooding in. Here's some information that all of you should know.
I want to play. Where do I go?
You can't play the game without an invite code. You have to get one and create a new account with it before you can play.
How do I get an invite code?
Current testers have invite codes. Ask for one on the IRC (current testers are the people with +v there), or ask for a code here (this is the thread that most of us with codes are monitoring - yes, there are other threads out there, but the information the thread here asks of you will make it much more likely for you to get a code if you seem like a good tester) - please try not to litter the forums with posts asking for codes. Remember that we testers only have a finite amount of codes, so if we say we're out of codes, spamming us with PMs will do you no good.
What's the game about?
It's sort of like RotMG in that it's a co-op game (no PvP) where you fight against AI enemies alongside your teammates. There are some major differences, however.
So how does it work?
Essentially, you move a tank around the map. The tank does the targeting for you (guns target the closest enemy), but you have some limited control over how the tank aims by turning it. Tanks also have abilities (called "triggers") that range from buffing themselves, to healing, to shotguns and blasts that can damage, stun, or paralyze enemies.
Enemies drop three kinds of loot: prisms, crystal shards, and items. Prisms boost your stats by a significant amount, but they'll get degraded every time you die. Crystal shards are items you use to craft consumables for your tanks; right now all you can do with them is make HP pots. Items are consumables that boost your stats (think stat pots, except they can also give you more vault space and new tanks); they can be bought and sold in the marketplace for coins - a currency that currently drops from certain bosses but will be made exclusively purchasable with real-world cash in the future.
The goal of the game is to kill 100 convoy event bosses, which move across the map from town to town. These things are really tough and take a while to kill, so you have to clear large swaths of territory in order to create a space where you can safely take them on.
Character progression essentially comes from unlocking tanks and upgrading tanks and looting prisms. You can't make yourself too powerful: at the absolute maximum (and nobody to my knowledge has actually achieved this) you can make yourself twice as powerful as a "base" player.

There are also lots of grid12 videos on youtube. Sort by date of upload to get vids corresponding to newer builds, which will reflect the current state of the game more accurately than ones from old builds:

- Autoaim: you don't control where you shoot. You move the tank, and the computer shoots for you.
- Limited upgrades: you cannot make yourself significantly stronger than a fresh newbie - certainly not to the level of difference between a fresh 20 and an 8/8 in Realm.
- Single battlefront: everyone fights in the same space. No godlands, newblands, etc.
