So, I was scouting out a town in a baryonic region to the far north area of the map. I had worked my way through a whole load of enemies while doing it, and had reached the middle of the region when I saw something that said 'comlink imminent'. Figuring that this just applied to me going any further north than the baryonic region, I moved a few grid-squares up from the middle...and hit the invisible barrier and was teleported back. Now, I'm not asking for a landscape that goes on forever (though that would be pretty cool : , but it would be nice to have visible edge-of-map barriers, or at least map barriers that don't cut half-way through sectors so that when I'm clearing one, I don't have to find out that I've been pursuing a lost cause for 2 hours.

The "barriers" depend on cities and are expandable by reclaiming and upgrading them (the radius stays the same though). This screenshot should give you a good idea about how they work and how big the radius is (seems like it's the same as the width or height of a region):

So...what you're saying is that as long as I can find a city, I can go on forever? Or do cities just stop spawning eventually?

You can't go on forever due to the bit length of our coordinates, but as long as you discover and connect cities you can prevent comlink recall from teleporting you back.

Ah, so that's the point of connecting cities! Thanks for the clearing up on that, rob. ...This thread can die now ^^.
