Does anyone use the spinny-camera modes? I was thinking of killing them off. They make my head hurt. Rob

I tried. 30 seconds later, I was on the brink of having a seizure. I'm not sure why. The swirly world looks just fine in realm. What about grid makes it weirder? Perhaps its the speed of rotation or the neon blur or...something. Idk

I think it makes it unpleasant here because we have squares and enemies where rotating rotates them.
You rotate in realm and the terrain is still the same orientation of grass and tree, only walls ever change how they look. Enemies only change how they look intermittently, most staying the same flat shape
Personally, I rarely use it, but I do use it.
I would say that if it's not actually hurting anyone don't remove it, but if it's something where getting rid of it will make the game better for everyone or expedite production, go ahead and kill it. The option is always a nice thing to have in my opinion though, especially given that attacking deltas with a corsair requires precision so the front shield takes all the hits - this is where being able to rotate is important since delta rotation is random.

Used to, not anymore. The after effects gave me motion sickness... @_@
Perhaps we should have a poll whether they're desired to keep till significant date of the poll has passed?

Use, no. Killing it seems a bit extreme though. Hypevosa put it best: I would say that if it's not actually hurting anyone don't remove it, but if it's something where getting rid of it will make the game better for everyone or expedite production, go ahead and kill it. The option is always a nice thing to have in my opinion though...

After reading everyone's posts, I'm agreeing with Ood/hype here. Why kill a feature when it isn't actively stopping anything? My opinion is that instead of deleting it, improve it, if possible. I mean, rotating would be a seriously useful thing given shielding and whatnot, and if you could just keep something (e.g. the floor?) static (somehow ._.) while rotating to make it a little less sickening, then that would be something I'd happily often use.

The difference between rotation here and rotation in realm is that there's no way to move sideways without turning. That makes something (specifically, moving laterally) that would be quick and easy in realm disorienting in Grid, and that (along with the fact that there's no analog of off-centered view, so rotation has no tactical advantage) why I never use it.

The tactical advantage of the rotating screen comes from wanting to attack from a specific angle. The best example is if a corsair is attacking a delta refinery, he wants to put his shield perfectly up the middle of the refinery so all the guns can't shoot beyond his good shield when he engages overdrive. It also helps any other forward attacking tank to line up direct assaults at exacting angles. You're right though, the lack of lateral movement is another reason it's not enjoyable.

I don't use it for the same reason I don't use it on maps IRL: rotation makes me lose my orientation with the “big picture” landmarks. I can learn that something is north of me, but when things are rotating, it optimizes for the small picture and I lose track of where the big picture elements are.

I've actually been using it exclusively since I was reminded we had it... >_>

As I see it rotation is much more helpful to keyboard users than it is to mouse users, since the mouse works in terms of absolute coordinates (where do you want to go?) rather than relative coordinates (how much from your current direction do you want to turn?). During my experiments with using the keyboard I found rotation invaluable for controlling direction of movement; it seems much less useful when using the mouse.

I use it, it's hard to play with your mouse that way, but I use the keyboard.
