So I played the game for a while, tried all the tanks, and got to level 10. Here are my thoughts in no particular order. Overall, I think the controls and basic gameplay are pretty solid, but it is only a starting point. A lot more needs to be done before this is a fun and addictive game. I am not going to talk about balance, art, or the enemies because that is clearly going to be improved in later updates. I am more interested in gameplay elements.
1. I only use camera mode #1. Camera mode #2 spins around too much and is hard to look at. Camera mode #3 seems redundant. I don't know what the point of limiting the mouse to a donut shaped area is.
2. Being able to rotate the camera is a good idea, but when it rotates automatically it just makes me dizzy. Being able to rotate the camera with the keyboard would be nice.
3. There is not enough variation in the towns. If you've seen one, you've seen them all. Maybe there could be different build patterns you could choose for towns, each with different benefits. Another thing to consider is having variations in the terrain and having that affect the towns. For instance, a town by a "river" would be different than a town in "mountains."
4. To elaborate on the above, we really need meaningful variations in the terrain. Right now, everything is the same and it is really boring.
5. There needs to be ways to upgrade your tank besides the boring buffs. I want to be able to get different guns or effects. One idea could be to kill certain enemies and have a chance to gain their abilities.
6. A tower defense element to the towns could be interesting. You could build turrets and stuff to defend them.
7. I want player-controlled special abilities. Autofire gets boring after a while. This is also a good way to introduce teamwork like in ROTMG.
8. There needs to be something to do in the outer areas of the map. The enemies get too strong and it is pointless to fight them. I understand that the idea is to expand outward from the player controlled area, but having vast swaths of the map with nothing to do seems like a bad idea.
9. There is not enough incentive for the player to do things. Building towns should give a direct benefit to whoever builds them. Maybe players could own towns or buildings and receive income from them.
