Why are we even fighting?

Were we invaded? Or are we invading?

Is there some sort of story that explains how our situation unfolds that places us in Origin to kill thousands of "enemy" tanks, fortresses and raid their convoys?

I don't know whether the lore is explicitly written down somewhere (I should use my search-fu if it's on the forum), but the story basically is:

Grid is the homeland, and it has been conquered by the evil enemies, that dismantle the grid for their own nefarious purposes (hence the dizzy tiles around towers). The brave group of players are trying to reconquer as much as possible.

I think a Wiki page should be made for the available lore.

There is no explicit lore yet, I offered to write one but I never got around to it since I only sensed half interest from Rob in my doing so. The G.R.U. thread has the closest thing to lore we have right now. Other than that, we're just a bunch of sciency mumbojumbo slapped together for no apparent reason, though Rob did state that we are evidently fighting off invaders.

It's kinda like Realm of the Mad God, I don't know why were fighting the Realm monsters. Was it Oryx that invaded are Realm with all his monsters? or was it Us that invaded Oryx's realm?
maybe he's trying to keep it simple like RotMG.

If I remember right, for realm, it appears that Oryx has trapped your soul within HIS realm for all eternity. This is his party, we're supposedly appetizers for his minions.
