I've been experimenting with different browsers, projectors, etc. All these tests were conducted on the same hardware (2012 MacBook Pro, 2.6 GHz quad, 16 GiB RAM). Here are my results.
As a person who prefers to use flash standalone instead of a browser to play, I'm curious why native flash is so much slower than the one embedded in Chrome or Firefox on the same box.
How do people here play G12? And how's your performance?
- Google Chrome (22.0.1229.79) on OSX 10.8.2: FPS: hovers at around 50-60. Memory: starts at around 15 and rises to around 50, subjectively "feels" very smooth.
- Firefox (15.0.1) on OSX 10.8.2: same stats as chrome. Feels the same.
- Flash Player Standalone (11.4.402.265) on OSX 10.8.2: FPS hovers around 50, occasionally drops to 30 when moving and rises to 60 when in towns, etc. Memory starts at around 115 and goes up to 150-ish from there. Subjectively there's a bit of input lag in chatting and clicking.
- Google Chrome (20.0.1132.57) on Xubuntu (virtualized): Unplayable. FPS in the single digits, MS is over 100 (it's around 15 for the other platforms), and memory is around 70. Since it's running in virtualbox I understand that there will be some drop in performance, but this drop seems a bit much to me, especially when I can manage 45 fps in Realm on the same virtualized test box. I don't have access to a native linux box at the moment (no time to install it on my new machine); when I do I'll post performance stats.
- Google Chrome (latest version, forgot to copy the numer) on Windows 7: seems to be similar to Chrome on OSX, but I haven't done much testing on this platform yet. I'll update this post when I get more data.
