Haven't played grid12 for a long time, think I stopped a while after paladin was released. Can someone give me a rundown of the new features and changes? I tried looking in game and reading the builds but its pretty overwhelming.

I don't have any idea about when you last played, but finding that date and reading up the build history will be the only sure-fire way to get you the answers. If you haven't yet, check out this link. Otherwise, just try the game out, and post any questions which come to mind.

Probably stopped at around build 60. Got cutlass, played a bit when the sector bosses were out. Am I still able to toggle off the tile animations around the edges of the screen?

You are not able to turn off the tile animations. From Build 99: I spent a lot of time rewriting the floor pane system. It uses significantly less CPU and memory and as a result, pane fade is now permanently enabled. The system should be less sloppy about letting you get off of the center of your pane circle too. To make this work, I had to ditch the Starcraft-like creep pane decay, and replace it with an all-at-once system. I've noticed (but can't reliably reproduce) a bug that occasionally draws a normal (non-creep, non-town) pane in white.

That bug is definitely still around. I still can't make it happen reliably enough to fix it!

Is that related to the white pane bug, where all tiles are drawn in white, directly following the destruction of the only tower on your screen?
