Idea is fuzzy but I'll post it anyway: Crafting without recipes- Crafting is about improving resonators.
- When a resonator is built with shards, it's level 1. You cannot upgrade it past this with shards.
- Instead, you upgrade a resonator by redesigning its internals.
- The UI would zoom into the resonator and you'd see how it's laid out. Imagine something like Manufactoria or SpaceChem.
- You'd use your splinters to upgrade/replace the components inside the resonator, as well as rearrange the layout.
- Different types of splinters would be different components, like conveyor belts, splitters, joiners, etc. We'd call them fusion chambers, lathes, antimatter injectors, etc.
- Each resonator would have a different grid w/holes. This means a minigame becomes: how well can you use the cards you've been dealt (splinters) to tackle the unique problem that's been handed to you (resonator grid).
- If your design is better than the existing resonator, the resonator is upgraded, and you get some xp based on how much better. If your design is worse, it is discarded and you get nothing.
- If someone else comes along they can try to improve the resonator you built.
This is a minigame and minigames are a lot of work to implement.

I love all the zachtronics games as much as the next guy (a lot), but they're much more mentally focused and puzzle oriented than G12 seems to be. I'm not sure if fans of coop shooters would be the same people as fans of puzzle games. Having said that, I'd enjoy minigames .
